Janjivan Bureau / NEW DELHI :; Sanitation experts and academicians have stressed the need of more awareness towards the use of Toilets and safe sanitation. Excepts were interacted in a symposium organised to mark “World Toilet Day” at Sulabh campus here today.
Scholars and sanitation experts interacted extensively discussed relevant topic through a symposium on Sulabh International’s contribution to SDG 6.2 to ensure access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all by 2030 organised .
In his opening remark Founder of Sulabh movement Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak said that World Toilet Day is a day to raise awareness about all people who do not have access to a toilet – despite the human right to water and sanitation. Dr. Pathak addressed the summit through video link .
Dr. Pathak says,” a toilet is not just a toilet. It’s a life-saver, dignity-protector and opportunity-maker. Whoever we are, wherever we are, sanitation is our human right.”
Dr. Pathak lauded the efforts of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for attaining grand success of “Swacchta Abhiyan.”
Sulabh International under the mentorship of great Sociologist and Social Reformer Dr.Pathak has contributed a lot to ensure “ Toilets for all “ in the last 52 years. Dr. Pathak developed and invented various methods in the field of sanitation technology during five decades.
On the occasion of the World Toilet Day Sulabh family believes that it is surely a good opportunity to celebrate achievements as well as raise awareness of the fact that 2.6 billion people in the world still lack access to proper sanitation, Dr. Pathak added.
World Toilet Day is a crucial day in India as it remains a significant issue in the country, particularly for children and women.
Such events provides a golden opportunity to sanitation volunteers and social works and students to create awareness on the significance of sanitation, and encourage momentum with the aim of reaching out to the people who are still left behind .
Academician Dr. Manisha Priyam, Principal of Jesus and Mary college, Prof Reena Marwah , and sanitation experts like Mr. Kulwant singh and Dr. NB Mazumdar took part in seminar and expressed their views.
Apart from symposium, students of sanitation clubs of various schools of Delhi have participated in walkathon and other activities to create awareness about Sanitation and Hygiene.
